Singing Happy Birthday at Mass Clair Monday, July 11, 2005

Question:

Hello,

Recently before the closing of Mass, (before we are dismissed), our Priest announced that it was the birthday of a long time (elderly) Parish member, and welcomed her large family and the Choir started to play "Happy Birthday" and the congregation sang it to her.

I, and some others I spoke with, felf uncomfortable having this done before Mass was officially ended. I was wondering if it was acceptable to have this done?

God Bless you and thanks,
Claire

Question Answered by Mr. Jacob Slavek

Dear Clair,

I really don't think that inside Church is the best time for "Happy Birthday", despite that it may be the most convenient time.  Following the Mass outside in the hall would be much better.

Mr. Slavek

(c) The titles of Acolyte and Lector belong exclusively to the Installed Offices of Acolyte and Lector, who are men (only) appointed by the Bishop. These roles performed by others are Altar Servers and Readers, respectively.
