Re: Sacrifice of the Mass (to Leslie) Tim Monday, January 21, 2008

Question:

Greetings!

I just read Leslie's questions in regards to the sacrifice of the Mass and would like to suggest she (and anyone else) read the book CATHOLICS AND THE EUCHARIST: A SCRIPTURAL INTRODUCTION by Stephen B. Clark (Servant Publications, Ann Arbor, Michigan, U.S.A.).

This book goes through the importance of the Liturgy and hearing the Word of God; then this brings us into the importance of the Eucharist in relation to God's New and Eternal Covenant with the Christian people, and how the Eucharist is life-giving and Christ's true Flesh, Blood, Soul and Divinity. I cannot think of a better, clearer, more concise description of the sacrifice of the Mass than this one, and I have used it as a precious resource in evangelization and apologetics.

God bless you and your ministry on this site!

In Christ,
TIM

Question Answered by Mr. Jacob Slavek

Dear Tim,

I haven't read the book myself so I can't comment on it, but I have read favorable reviews so I'm happy to pass along your recommendation.

Mr. Slavek

Footer Notes: (a) A Eucharistic Minister is clergy (Ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion). Laity are Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion and should never be called Eucharistic Ministers.

(b) There is no such Mass called the Novus Ordo. The Current Mass is the Roman Missal of 2000, or the Oridinary Form of the Mass. The Tridentine Mass is the Roman Missal of 1962, or the Extraordinary Form of the Mass. Please refrain from using the term, Novus Ordo. Thanks.

(c) The titles of Acolyte and Lector belong exclusively to the Installed Offices of Acolyte and Lector, who are men (only) appointed by the Bishop. These roles performed by others are Altar Servers and Readers, respectively.
