Safe to say Prayer to Break Curses and Spells Elena Wednesday, May 19, 2010

Question:

Is it safe to say a Prayer to Break Curses and Spells found in the Spiritual Warfare Prayer Catalog on behalf of another person ? I have reason to believe a friend of mine is under a love or "tie foot" spell that prevents him from leaving his gf. This is a spell where, in the Caribbean, women use to prevent their bfs from leaving them and use evil means to tie the man's will to them. Where i come from these types of spells/witchcraft are very common and is known as "obeah"

A friend of mine who was praying an exorcism prayer for someone who she believed needed help immediately felt a dark spiritual presence on her having finished the prayer. She had to be delivered before the Blessed Sacrament.

I would like to say this prayer for this friend but i do not want any spiritual repercussions or backlash.

Another question I have for you, is that I have reason to believe that my household is under a spiritual attack from a neighbour. It is not hocus pocus, in the Caribbean these things happen a dime a dozen, and the poor Christian who is just trying to live a simple and peaceful life are subject to these attacks.

A priest with a discerning spirit later confirmed that he was picking up the person in question. Now, what can i do? I have said the Hedge Protection prayers, but what more can i do? i cannot buy a new house and the person lives across the street and i have nothing to do with them. In fact the woman happens to be my sister in law and has turned my own brother against me. Who would believe these evil idle people have nothing to do with their time!!

God bless your work and this site!!
Please help.

Dear Elena:

We cannot live and grow in the Christian faith and Christ-life without catching Satan's attention. Anytime we pray for another person there is a risk in repercussions. We cannot be worried about that. We need to remember that God is far more powerful than the devil

The most likely problem with your friend is not that she prayed intercessory prayers, but that she prayed an exorcism prayer over someone she "thinks" needed it. I doubt she was qualified to diagnose the person in the first place, or trained to "pray over" people who are demonized. If one tries to do that sort of thing without training, and with God's specific call to be a deliverance counselor, will get one in trouble, sometimes serious trouble.

It is different to pray intercessory prayers for someone, such as those prayers we have in our Spiritual Prayer Catalog. There is no guarantee that one may not get repercussions from the Evil One since he does not like anyone praying against him, but we are called by God to pray for each other.  God will protect us, and if we get repercussions for doing what God allows us do (intercessory prayer) then God has allowed it for some reason. We should rejoice that God has allowed it, if that be the case, because He allows only that which will benefit us to grow stronger in the Faith.

Now in terms of prayer the Prayer to Break Curses and Spells, such a prayer can be prayed on behalf of another person. When used that way it will have to modified a little since it is designed to be prayed by the person himself who is undergoing the curse or spell. But, we can ask God, on behalf of another, to break a curse or spell.

The prayer will be far more effective, however, if it is prayed by the person himself. No one will be delivered unless they want to be and cooperate with God in doing what is necesssary to find deliverance. Nevertheless, our intercessory prayers can be useful and effective up to the point allowed by the free will of the person we are praying for. The person probably ought to follow our Seven Steps to Self-Deliverance.

As for your own household, praying the Hedge Prayers of Protection, Prayers to Break Curses and Spells, and perhaps the Rebuking Particular Spirits are the types of prayers to be said. On the personal level, one needs to live a good and productive Christian life, participating in the Sacraments frequently, and doing all the things a good Christian should do in their daily lives with Christ. You might consider for yourself the Seven Steps for Self-Deliverance since those steps are generically useful for all of us.

We will be in prayer for you and your friends.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
