Question: I am a psychologist and have worked for a domestic violence agency for almost 12 years. The first few years, our shelter was located in an old convent next to a catholic church. They were many unexplained activities that occured there. One client experienced something shove her into the kitchen cupboards and hold her there for a few seconds. While working late at night, i heard one of our client's children screaming horrifically. After the mother calmed him down he explained that his door kept opening and shutting on its own. Other employees would complain that they felt like they were being watched and would see a shadow in the corner of their eye. There are many other examples. I just thought it was because we were in a convent and that maybe evil spirits may have crept in after the nuns left. Without my boss knowing, i went to the priest of the catholic church and explained what was going on and asked him to bless the shelter. He agreed to do so. There was no demonic activity for at least 6 months and we had to leave this particular location due to financial reasons. My agency relocated our shelter to a house that we have rented for about 8 years. I have never experienced anything, but other employees and clients have complained about unexplained things happening and think this house is haunted. Do you think that domestic violence opens the doors for evil to present itself? These women and children have experienced horrible abuse. Could our clients, whom are all vicitms of domestic violence or sexual assault, be bringing in these demonic presences and it is not the location itself? Thank You and God Bless You.
Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM Dear Hope: The devil loves to get into the thick of anything that will disrupt or destroy the image of God. While each of us is made in the image of God, the more complete image of God, who is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) is the family. Thus, anything that threatens the family--such as incest, rape, divorce, adultery, domestic violence, etc.--is a favorite past-time for the devil. To answer your question directly, yes, these women and children may have demonic attachments that follow them. This is especially the case in sexual assault. There can be a "transference" of demons from the attacker to the poor victim. This is why I suggest to every girl, woman, boy, and man who has been sexually assaulted in any way to pray spiritual warfare prayers, such as the Rebuking of Particular Spirits (of rape, incest, molesting, etc.), and also the Hedge Prayers of Protection (which everyone should pray). From your standpoint, you can pray these prayers for your clients, even without their knowledge. I would also bless the house with Holy Water periodically. If you can, even if you have to do it covertly, you might consider doing the House Cleansing and Blessing that we have in our Spiritual Warfare Prayer Catalog linked below.
