Question:

A few weeks ago, my brother contacted my family to say he has called time on his marriage. This was a massive shock to us, especially his wife - they have only been married for 7 months and were very much in love. This has been replaced by a very sudden coldness on his part and he is adamant it's over - I can't explain how out of character this is.

On investigation, I've discovered that he began having cranial-sacral therapy for migraines last year and through this, became involved in kundalini yoga and obsessive deep meditation which coincided with his change in behaviour.

His conversations with myself and my mother over the phone have been scary - he has described quite matter of factly that he's experiencing spiritual attacks and his wife has confirmed that he has displayed physical manifestations such as scratches. He informed me that he ended his marriage as he and his wife were on 'different paths' and that he is on a 'spiritual journey'. He is recalling childhood memories which are seriously flawed or at worst untrue. Most frightening of all, he has spoken to 'people' when there is no-one else in the room with him. He seems to be experiencing some form of purpose and has told us that he now has a purpose on earth and aims to become his 'higher self' which he has viewed in some sort of vision. He has talked about work he must do before 2012. And his has described a change in his physical features.

We are all incredibly concerned about, and very much love him and don't know where to turn - there is also a history of paranoid schitzophrenia in our family, so we can't tell if this is a psychotic breakdown, brainwashing or demonic possession - and it has happened so suddenly, literally in the space of 2 weeks with no warning, that we are still in some shock.
Please can you advise? We don't know where to start discerning and dealing with this!

Question Answered by

Dear Ann:

I am deeply sorrowed to hear about your brother. Some of what you are describing can be consistent with demonization, and other aspects can be psychiatric. It is not unusual to have both problems together.

I am afraid that there is nothing that can be done directly unless he is willing to seek help. No one can force him to get help, not even God. God does not force people.

What can be done is to pray for him to be open to help and to pray for healing and deliverance. In our Spiritual Warfare Catalog, linked below, I recommend the following prayers:

Prayer for a Friend or Relative

Hedge Prayer for Return of Wayward Persons

Hedge Prayer for Protection of Others

Rebuking Particular Spirits (on his behalf)
Breaking Personal Curses and Spells (on his behalf)

Beginning in August, here at St. Michael House, we are going to pray the deliverance prayers on a monthly basis on behalf of our clients and for those who come to our attention, such as your brother. Deliverance can be done in absentia of the person needing deliverance. The afflicted person does not even have to know about it -- the demons know it.

Keep your brother in prayer. Perseverance is the key. I know it is heart-breaking to see a loved-one spiritually and mentally deteriorate, but you must be strong and trust in God. Persevere in prayer. What is the most important is not his healing and deliverance, but his immortal soul. He can still go to heaven even if never delivered (even possessed people can go to heaven).

We are praying for him.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
