I am afraid that I opened a door ann Sunday, February 13, 2011

Question:

Dear Brother Ignatius,
I have had experiences in the past with what I was told was demonic harrassment by you. I have been very non caring lately about praying and going to mass. A group of friends decided to have a game night, we would take turns going over one anothers house and playing cards or board games etc.

One of my friends is extremely interested in ghost hunting, and I watch all the ghost hunting shows all the time. We were at my friends house which is an old farm house with lots of rooms and an attic. We decided to go up into the attic and do our own little investigation. Nothing happened and we just laughed it off . She had a ouija board that someone gave her as a gift, and the next "game night" she brought it to our friends house, I joined in on the ouija board with everyone else, and again nothing happened. I did this twice, and I felt very guilty about doing this because I know it is wrong and I shouldn't have. I have missed mass for about 6 weeks now. I have lost all desire to pray, I am having lustful thoughts again that are plagueing me. And bad dreams as well.

I went to confession a week ago and confessed what I had done. The priest told me I should avoid those things because the devil and demons are real. He asked if anything happened while we were using the board and I said no. Now I am beginning to wonder, because of the intense desire I have to watch demon movies or anything occult. I have been having lustful thoughts that press me into wanting to watch pornography. I have also started to hear popping noises from the ceiling in my bedroom. I WILL NEVER play with the ouija board again. I know it is my own stupidity, but I am very sorry for doing this. I am afraid that I need help. What can I do?

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r)

Dear Ann:

First, NEVER DO IT AGAIN, as you have already pledged.

I hear all the time people protesting that nothing happened when they played the Ouija Board, so it must be okay. Indeed nothing of a physical nature may have happened on the board, but that does not mean nothing happened, as you discovered.

The Ouija Board is a form of conjuring demons. Whether or not demons manifest while one is playing the Ouija Board is insignificant. In fact, demons prefer not to manifest, but to remain in the shadows. By laying low and studying their target they can better attack the person.

It is also a specific strategy to not attack at the time, but wait until weeks, months, or even years later. The demons can lay dormant waiting for their opportunity. That opportunity can present itself, for example, at a time when the person is weakest weeks or months later. Waiting until later can also cause the person to not get the connection between what is happening to them and their dabbling with the Ouija. The advantage of this for the demons is that if the person doesn't get the connection, maybe they will play the Ouija again.

What you can do?

Follow the Seven Steps to Self-Deliverance linked below. Also use whichever prayers in the Spiritual Warfare Prayer Catalog that may apply to you. Certainly you should pray the Hedge Prayer of Protection, the Renunciation and Take Back Ground, Prayer to Control Thoughts, and the Rebuking Particular Spirits (e.g, lust, pornography, fornication, etc.).

If the Seven Steps do not give you some relief then you may need to contact us for formal counseling.

In the future do not get within 100 miles of occult activities and other things not in line with Catholic Teaching.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
