Question: I have asked a question 2x about my adopted son (7/27/08 and 8/10/10). We have recently started working with a priest to ascertain what spiritual forces may be at work in our son's problems and to prepare him for his first confession. Anyway, today during a tantrum I asked my son, "In the name of Jesus, who are you?" His tantrum proceeded to get worse and he tried to strangle himself. He has said he wanted to die and asked me to kill him before, but trying to strangle himself is new. Later I went upstairs and smelled something. I found a curling iron plugged in but turned off with a plastic crucifix from a rosary melting to it. Since my daughter left an hour before, it must have been off awhile. Now I am reading online that we are NOT to address demons. Have I made a huge mistake? What do I do now? Is there any danger anymore or is it past b/c his tantrum is over? Thank you
Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r) Dear Jen: Outside of a solemn exorcism by a priest we are no never ask a demon its name. Instead we can command the demon to leave calling it by its attribute, such as, "I command you demon of this tantrum to depart from my child." You need to rebuke this demon (again using its attribute). We have a rebuking prayer, and other prayers, such as a Hedge Prayer of Protection, in our Spiritual Warfare Catalog linked below. I would also advise a House Cleansing and Blessing. We have an extensive House blessing based upon the blessing from the 17th century located in the Catalog. Do not worry about what you did in asking the demon's name; just do not do it again. We will be praying for your child and the whole family. God Bless, Bro. Dear Jen:
