Spiritual problem? Mary Thursday, July 14, 2011

Question:

Dear Brother,

Recently, I left religious life after a short time due to health problems. Since I left religious life I"ve been staying with a family member, and it has been a very blessed situation in every respect.

When I was in religious life I experience a major deliverance and healing from many things including food addictions, overweight, emotional problems, etc due to childhood abuse and dysfunctional family.

When I was there in religious life a family member visited that I immediately had a sense that they had spiritual 'problems', that is demonic attachments or maybe even possession. This person has a history of uncontrolled rage, emotional and physical as well as possibly sexual abuse (as the abuser). Before I saw this person when they visited me in religious life I hadn't really considered the possibility of those type of spiritual problems for that person.

Recently, this family member visited me here where I've been staying. The person I've been staying with (she and her husband are lapsed Catholics but still believing Christians who may be on their way to coming back to the Church) told me she had a vivid sense of evil and darkness, like looking into hell. She'd had this feeling once before when she visited a "Renaissance Fair" that was mostly for wiccans, etc. She felt, without knowing why I think, a strong urge to prayer as a result. I was surprised that I didn't have the same sense about this person that I did when i was in religious life, however, the visit was very negative, including an incident of emotional abuse (screaming for no reason) and this person's significant other obviously not being happy or comfortable with my extreme weight loss.

Since this person left I've noticed an increased negative attitude towards me by the person I'm staying with and her husband. THere's been a lot of negative joking about me, kind of in a demeaning way, and they seem more harsh than usual. Interestingly, they don't seem really aware of their change in attitude. Prior to this visit their attitude was much more positive.

The day after the visit ended I had a strong experience of being rejected by God, or maybe what you'd call spiritual darkness. AFter going to Mass and Holy Communion twice today and spending some time in adoration I feel much better.

My question is, Do you think this person (the one who visited) may actually have a demonic attachment or be possessed, etc? And do you think this is what caused the change in attitude of the other two people mentioned?

If so, what can I do, if anything? I'm not sure addressing the situation directly would necessarily be beneficial.

I'm sorry about the length of this post, and I thank you in advance for your help.
God bless you,
Mary

Question Answered by

Dear Mary:

I praise God for your own deliverance.

From what you are describing this person is probably demonized and when he visited he left "something" behind. This happens a lot. A demon can be left behind to attack the new victims.

Depending on the nature of these people and your relationship to them, you might try to explain to them your concern how their attitude has change since that person's visit. Ideally, they should pray some of the prayers in our Spiritual Warfare Catalog linked below.

If they are not willing to do that, you can pray for them. In addition, since you have been attacked directly, you should pray the Hedge Prayer for Protection of Self. Look through the Catalog and pray whatever prayers fit the situation. The Rebuking Particular Spirits prayer can be used to rebuke specific spirits, such as a demeaning spirit, spirit of anger, or whatever -- identify the spirits by their attribute.

We will be in prayer for you and for the family you are staying with, and for this unfortunate family member.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
