Revelation 12:11 Alexandro Thursday, February 2, 2012

Question:

Revelation 12:11 is obviously about believers overcoming the evil one, but the meaning of it is not clear to me. When it says, "They conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony", it confuses me. Does it mean that believers conquer the devil by pleading the blood of Jesus and speaking of their testimony? This is one interpretation I heard. Or does it mean that this is how we are justified before God when the devil accuses us to Him? Please give me some clarity with this, as it would help in my life. Thanks.

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r)

Dear Alexandro:

Revelation 12:11 reads: "And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death."

"They" in this passage is referring to the martyrs. It appeared that the martyrs were defeated by the devil in that they were killed. But, in actuality killing the martyrs of the faith was a great victory. The martyrs have shown the greater love (John:13) that makes them like Christ, even in his death (Phil 3:10).

The devil is conquered by the blood of the Lamb (Jesus) on the Cross and by our testimony of attaining redemption by our profession of faith and in our love of Christ, proclaiming that faith and love unto death.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
