Question: My son has lived in his home for 3 years. Last Thursday he had night paralysis and believed he saw a figure. When he went to take a shower, the words "Shawn will die" was written on the mirror with a Sharpee. Then there was a door slam and the light in the starwell turned on. He has never played with anything occult but he is not a practicing Catholic. His brother who owns the house doesn't feel or see anything. I have said the rosary and the words "get behind me Satan". All these events happen only with Shawn. I have printed your documents for him but how can this happen when nothing was provoked? He is 21. Thank you, bless you.

Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r) Dear Chris: There are several reasons one can be harassed by demons. 1) a person flirting with or being involved in the occult 2) committing grievous sin (sexual sin, abortion, and other very serious sins) 3) an innocent who becomes the victim of a curse, hex, etc. 4) an innocent who is victim of random attack. Evil is often random with no particular reason. Not practicing his faith, you son is putting a target on his behind saying, "hey devil, come and get me." Your son needs to return to the Church and follow the Seven Steps to Self-Deliverance, linked below. If he is not willing to do this, then he cannot expect to find freedom from these harassments, and is under the risk of bondage and worse. This needs to be nipped in the bud before is gets any worse. He has to want to do what is right. God will not force him.
