praying on Halloween Linda Saturday, October 23, 2004

Question:

Dear Brother;

This time Halloween falls on a Sunday. My family was going to attend a Halloween party that only allows dressing up as saints/angels but the children are down sick now and I don't know if we will be able to go.

Is there a best time to pray on that day in reparation for all the sins people committed in reguards to the occult on this day? I plan on offering my Holy Communion I receive that day for this intention but what other prayer or devotion would be best?

Is there a special time to pray on this day and is it really the satanists "holy day" as I've read in the newspapers?

There are always articles that appear around that time saying what good witches do and how they are not really evil..ect.... They also quote witches saying that Halloween is their "holy day". What do you think?

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM+

Dear Linda:

Halloween is one of many important days on the Satanist calendar. Given the pagan rituals of death as a metaphor for the coming winter, it is not surprising that groups like Satanists would latch on to the death theme of this day.

I have written an essay called, Should Christians Participate Halloween? One of the suggestions I make in that essay is for children to dress up in positive costumes such as saints. We can "take back" the day and make it Christ's.

As for a good time to pray for those caught-up in evil and for their victims the best time is whenever you have the time to prayer. If possible, however, I recommend prayer at 3am on October 31 and again on November 1st.

Here is a transcript of a prayer meeting we have used for Halloween:

Welcome to our special prayer meeting to pray on this Halloween for those caught in the web and delusion of evil and for their victims.

At his hour, 3am here in Central Time (and when it is 3am wherever you are), many rituals take place. 3am (actually midnight to 3am) is the time of many ceremonies and rituals of the most evil kind. This time period is the "backside" of the time of Christ's Passion. 3pm is when Christ died; 3am is when satanists mock our Lord's death. Thus at this time period rituals of animal sacrifice, child molesting, and even murder (human sacrifice) may take place.

Halloween represents one of the High unholy days for this particularly evil and criminal form of satanism and occultism (it should be noted, however, that not all satanists or occultists are involved in criminal activity).

Halloween is the time of the Fall pagan celebrations of the Harvest and the coming of the death of Winter. It is believed that at this time the veil between the living and the dead is quite thin. Thus with the veil between the living and the dead at its thinnest, as they believe, rituals which call up the forces of the dead become important for the satanist/occultist.

The reality however, is that their "belief" has effects in the real world. Those effects can be horrendous and too terrible to outline here. Thus, we gather here this morning, at the "witching" hour, to pray against the forces of evil and to pray for the salvation and deliverance of the poor souls lost in evil and for their victims.

Before we get started, are there any intentions you would like to bring to this prayer meeting relating to people, friends, or family that may be caught up in the occult, evil activities, spiritual warfare, etc.?

Okay, let us begin.....

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with Thee, blessed art thou among woman and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

We come against all enemies in the Name and by the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthened by the intercession of the Immaculate Virgin Mary, Mother of God, of Blessed Michael the Archangel, of Blessed Apostles Peter and Paul, Blessed Sts. Bruno, Denis, Dymphna, Rita of Cascia, Lucian, Marcian, Margaret of Fontana, Quirinus, Ubaldo, Lucy Bulfalari, Philomena, Teresa of Avila, Bernadette of Lourdes, and St. Benedict, and all the Saints and Angels of Heaven, and powerful in the holy authority of His Name, we claim the protection of our Lord that nothing shall injure or disturb us as we confidently undertake to repulse the attack and deceits of the devil through our prayers this morning. Amen.

Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, Our life, our sweetness and our hope. To Thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To Thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious Advocate, Thine eyes of mercy towards us and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of Thy womb Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

Virgin full of goodness, Mother of Mercy, I entrust to thee my body and my soul, my thoughts and my actions, my life and my death. O my Queen, come to my aid and deliver me from the snares of the devil. Obtain for me the grace of loving my Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, with a true and perfect love, and after Him, O Mary, of loving thee with all my heart and above all things. Amen.

Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world. For the sake of His sorrowful passion have mercy on us and on the whole world.

Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, I adore You profoundly, and I offer You the most precious Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus Christ, present in all the tabernacles of the world, in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges, and indifference with which He Himself is offended. And through the infinite merits of His most Sacred Heart, and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I beg of You the conversion of poor sinners. Amen.

Holy Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou, O prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl through the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Now we offer a powerful spiritual warfare prayer:

Heavenly Father, we bring before You and the Lord Jesus Christ all those who are caught into the delusion of evil and also their victims, and all who have been mentioned here this morning. Satan is blinding and binding these people in awful bondage. Many of them may be in such a condition that they cannot or will not come to You for help on their own. We stand in for them, dear Lord, in intercessory prayer before Your throne. We draw upon the Person of the Holy Spirit that He may guide us to pray in wisdom, power, and understanding.

In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, strengthened by the intercession of the Immaculate Virgin Mary, Mother of God, of Blessed Michael the Archangel, of the Blessed Apostles Peter and Paul, Blessed Saints Pio, Bruno, Denis, Dymphna, Rita of Cascia, Lucian, Marcian, Margaret of Fontana, Quirinus, Ubaldo, Lucy Bulfalari, Teresa of Avila, Bernadette of Lourdes, Philomena, and St. Benedict, and all the saints and angels of heaven, and powerful in the holy authority of His Name, We ask you Lord to loose these people from the awful bondage the powers of darkness are putting upon them. We ask that You bind all powers of darkness set on destroying their lives.

We ask that You bind them aside in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and forbid them to work. We ask Lord that You bind up all powers of depression and despair that are seeking to cut them off and imprison them in a tomb of despondency. We ask that You bind up all powers of delusion that are seeking to blind them and keep him and them from knowing the Truth and the will You have for them.

We specifically ask that You bind all the spirits of occultic and ungodly powers, and the spirits of suicide, murder, molesting, rape, and all other hideous evils. Believing that Your Holy Spirit is leading us, we claim these people for You in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and we thank You for the answer to our prayer. Grant us the grace to be persistent and faithful in our intercessions, that You may be glorified through this deliverance. Amen.

Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for those in darkness and for their victims (them) and us.
Sacred Heart of Jesus, pray for them and us.
St. Michael the Archangel, pray for them and us.

Father in heaven, cast out all darkness from them and us.
Lord Jesus Christ, deliver and save them and us.
Holy Spirit, fill us to overflowing that they and us may be pure and protected from the evil one.

Let us conclude with the Chaplet of St. Michael for the intentions of our meeting this morning…..
