Question:

Dear Bro. Ignatius Mary,

Thank you for all you do for those who are afflicted. I am sure you remember me from a couple of posts ago. Since then, I have been saying the Hedge, Proxy, and Deliverance prayer every day, along with the Rosary and other prayers.

Things are not looking good for my daughter, she is in another psych hospital; she tried to take her life. I am trying to keep this short. They are giving her new medications for bi-polar. The doctors originally thought she had diabetic type one depression. I continue to pray to Blessed John Paul II every day for him to cure her, he needs one more miracle to become a saint, I have prayed to him ever since my daughter got her diabetes a couple of years ago. I feel just so absolutely helpless---like Job during his afflictions. I went and told God, please cure her or take her, she is suffering a great deal. Will wait and see His answer........

My question is to you should I contact a priest to perform an excoriscism? I know this is not much information for you to go on. Should I just keep on saying those three prayers and hope for the best? I am sorry, but, before my daughter saw that "thing" she was happy, normal, in sports, she just loved life. It did something to her. Is there such a thing a mild possession? Or mild obsession? The doctors said she did what she did because it was a call for help. She is getting psych help, what about spiritual help. Thank you Brother Ignatius Mary.

PS. I am sorry for sounding 'proud' in my last entries, I blame it on nerves and trying to find answers too quickly to fix my broken daughter and I lost all tact, something I need to work on...

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r)

Dear Donna:

I am sorry to hear that your daughter is not doing well. You must persevere in prayer. Keep praying and never stop.

You can certainly talk to a priest about this. The problem is finding a priest who knows about such things.

If your daughter is able to accept counseling we might be able to help with the spiritual side of things when she gets out of the hospital. We cannot help, however, if her psychological condition gets in the way of her productively participating in the counseling process. She needs to be able to understand the advice and counsel we give her, put that advice into action, and be able to pray the prayers we use in deliverance.

For you, I know as a parent this is really hard, but you must resist the temptation to desperation. If you begin feeling desperate that will give the devil an opportunity to attack you.

You need to practice your faith as best as you know how. Be a loyal, obedience, and practicing Catholic doing all the things that devout Catholics do. You would do well to go through the Seven Steps to Self-Deliverance, linked below, yourself to be sure you are squeaky clean. To fight for your daughter you have to have your own spiritual house in order.

You must submit your daughter to God and let go of any desperation. There is no guarantee that she will be healed of any psychiatric problems. You must accept that. There is also no guarantee of total healing from any demonic issues that may be present. But, if that is the case, God has a reason for it. God says,

(Romans 8:28)  We know that in everything God works for good with those who love him, who are called according to his purpose.

This is a promise of God and since God does not lie, and He keeps His promises, you can trust that this promise will be the case. The fulfilling of this promise may not be the way you want it. You must accept whatever comes and look for the good that can come from this.

Another promise of God is...

(1 Corinthians 10:13)  No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your strength, but with the temptation will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

God promises to not even allow a temptation to come into your life that you cannot handle. He promises to always give you a way of escape from that temptation. So if you have a temptation to desperation, for example, you can know that you can handle it and avoid the temptation because God says so. You must, of course, accept His help to accept the way of escape.

We will have our prayer team pray for your daughter, you keep praying for her, and accept whatever comes.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
