Anxiety disorder Phil Monday, April 29, 2013

Question:

Can an anxiety disorder be if demonic origin? I've suffered pretty intense bouts of severe social anxiety ever since I was a child. It is a circumstantial thing, usually related to performance, public speaking types of things, particularly in work situations. I recently was at an Ignatian retreat, and was plagued with anxiety the entire retreat, particularly as I had to give a talk and lead a reflection. The thing is, I went to confession, prayed repeatedly, but the anxiety just got worse and worse. I sometimes wonder if it is of diabolic origin designed to make me unhappy and lose faith. I have of course received psychological counsel, tried medications, but nothing seems to work. Though I must say I've come to accept it somewhat. Any thoughts, prayers, or suggestions? That's another negative by- product of this-it leads me to believe that maybe prayer doesn't work.

Dear Phil:

Anxiety disorders are usually caused by chemical imbalances in the brain and/or from psychological sources. You need to follow your doctor's prescriptions and advice on this.

With that said, demons can sometimes hitchhike on problems that already exist to make the problem worse than it would be otherwise.

Living the Christ-Life as best you can, plus some spiritual warfare prayers will likely resolve that. You can pray any of the prayers found in our Spiritual Warfare Prayer Catalog, linked below.

To help you get your life into a mode of living the Christ-Life to the fullest degree, you might also go through our Seven Steps to Self-Deliverance, also linked below.

The spiritual approach will only deal with the spiritual issues (i.e. , any demonic interference). This will not heal any underlying anxiety disorder.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
