Question:

This question is regarding my brother who has been diagnosed by the V.A. as a schizophrenic. He gets an injection every two weeks for the past several years to help him with his condition. Nonetheless, he still hears voices that he claims are mean spirits that deride him. I am just wondering if the fact that he is not cured of hearing these voices that this could mean that he is in fact not deluded...or do some schizophrenic people continue to have some symptoms even if they take medication. He really believes that this is evil, and even if he may be deluded, he prays the St. Michael prayer almost constantly to counter the voices. He is fearful.

Thank you for your answer, and please pray for Gilbert. I am sure he would be very grateful for your prayers, and deliverance from this if in fact there might be a demonic element to this. I know he is ill, but you had mentioned that demons sometimes "piggy back ride" on mental problems.

Thanks and God bless your ministry,
Lisa

Dear Lisa:

It is the nature of the disease of schizophrenia to hear voices, including negative voices.  Even with medication schizophrenics may still hear voices. It is a constant battle for doctors to find the right combination of medications to control the disease. What works today may not work months later.

Schizophrenia is not curable. Your brother will live with this disease for the rest of his life.

There is also a small chance that demons may hitchhike on this disease. You can pray prayers for him, such as the Hedge Prayer of Protection and even the Rebuking Prayer to rebuke the spirits of the voices, schizophrenia, delusions, etc. But, realize that even if every demon that may be hanging around is totally cast out, the brain disease will remain with all of its symptoms.

The value of the spiritual warfare prayers is to protect him from any additional suffering that demons may cause, but the underlying psychosis will remain.

You can try to encouage him to not be afraid, that his Guardian Angel is beside him at all times, but since he is not able to think clearly, this may not help. Pray for him and continue to love him.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
