Sexual sins are not leaving me Joseph Friday, June 20, 2014

Question:

Hello Brother,
I had asked a question before, that I was not able to confess my homosexual sins to a priest and I could go to a priest and confess all of them after reading your reply.

I really thought, that was the end of all the bad things happened in my life. But I found that I was more attracted to males after that, and most of the times one or other way, i was getting tempted.

I did not have sexual relationship with anyone after that, but all the thoughts coming to my mind were bad.. :( Even if I dont want them to come to my mind, i am not able to stop them.

I pray everyday.. I am asking God to take this sin from me from the root.. But, I am again and again flling into the same sin.. I dont want to live like this brother.. I want to live a life which pleases to my God. But, whenevr I do a sin and go to Jesus and say, Lord, I am sorry, and I will not do it again..Jesus must be worrying so much that he knows that I would do it again :(

..How do I get rid of this sin.. I dont see any other sins affecting me.. I am kind hearted, I love ppl, I am humble.. but this sin is haunting me everyday.. Even in the church, I always stand at the very back for masses thinking I am the least fortunate person to come and stand before God..I would need your prayers..
Thanks...

Dear Joseph:

I praise God that you are able to get to confession and have not acted out sexually since then. Congratulations.

Confession, however, does not end the battle. We must all continue to struggle with temptation. The bad thoughts and temptations you are describing are not automatically healed when we confess. Confession is about the absolution of our sins up to the point that we may confession. It does not prevent future sins. When we commit new sins it requires a new act of confession.

This means that habitual sins and sins committed repeatedly because of our weakness will have to be confessed over and over each time a new act of sin occurs.

Temptation, however, is not a sin. A mere thought is not a sin. A thought becomes sinful only when we indulge it and ruminate on it. A temptation does not become a sin until we actually do the sin.

In terms of thoughts that intrude upon our mind to which we do not want there is also no sin. The reason thoughts may intrude in our minds without our consent can range from a psychiatric condition, and obsession of some sort or other psychological issue, or perhaps a demonic attack. Thoughts that are sourced in these possibilities are not sin because we are not consenting to those thoughts. Sin requires consent.

What I would advise includes two things: 1) go through the Seven Steps to Self-Deliverance, linked below. 2) avail yourself of our Spiritual Warfare Prayer Catalog, also linked below. Take special note of the prayer called, Prayer To Control Thoughts, and also the prayer, Rebuking Particular Spirits.

Presume that these intrusive thoughts are demonic attacks. Each time these thoughts intrude upon your mind rebuke that spirit. This would be in the form of, "I rebuke you spirits of homosexual lust. Father in heaven please remove this spirit from me and instead give me a spirit of purity." This quick prayer can be done each and every time these intrusive thoughts enter your mind. The formal rebuking prayer linked above is something that you might pray morning and evening.

The formula for this prayer is the same regardless of which spirit may be attacking you. Thus, if it's a spirit of depression is attacking, then you would rebuke the spirit of depression, and asked God to instead give you a spirit of joy. The point is to rebuke the evil spirit and ask God to give you what ever the opposite spirit would be. The opposite of lust is purity, for example.@

Work on the Seven Steps to Self-Deliverance and pray whatever prayers are useful to you in the Catalog for a couple of months. If you find no relief at all and you may want to contact me about it.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
