Question:

Hello Bro.,

I'm having a difficult time managing emotions in positive ways to relieve stress, overcome challenges, and adapt to changing circumstances.

They are affecting my thoughts and health. When I think about my new job, I have emotions (anxiety) accompanied by physical sensations like stomach tight. I pray a lot, go to mass and asking God to help me. I try to focus in other positive thoughts and take a deep breath to calm down. I went to a psychologist, but it didn't work a lot. Months ago I had difficult time: lost my aunt, changed my job and my father had a heart attack (he's fine now). But after these 5 months I still having a hard time.

I was thinking about taking a course in a Emotional Intelligence program. What do you think?

I can't find motivation yet and I have dislikes (sorrow) in everything I liked before... maybe it's a dark night of the soul?

How to increase my motivation and will. Even thinking in Bible passages or Christ words I can't find joy and motivation...

thank you so much
Susi

Dear Suzi:

I am sorry to hear about these problems.

I do not know about "Emotional Intelligence" but it smacks to me like one of those fads that have little value.

What you have described sounds like a psychological issue, but there is always a chance that the demonic has hitchhiked onto your problems.

What this is definitely not is the "dark night of the soul." The dark night is not depression or spiritual dryness. The dark night is one of the steps leading to infused contemplation. Infused contemplation is not available to anyone but a rare few. It is a gift from God, given only to a few, that cannot be worked on to achieve.

I would suggest trying counseling again, perhaps even talking to a doctor about medications that may help. On the spiritual side I suggest our Seven Steps to Self-Deliverance and Spiritual Warfare Prayer Catalog, both linked below.

The Seven Steps will help you to get back on track and hopefully cast away any pesky demons that are hanging around.

The Prayer Catalog will give you prayers that may be useful to you. The Rebuking Particular Spirits I would suggest. You need to rebuke the spirit of spiritual dryness, depression, lack of motivation, etc.

After going through the Seven Steps, if there is no relief at all, you might consider making an appointment with us. This can be done with our Online Appointment Calendar.

We will be praying for you.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
