Catholic Mystics or Intuitives Part II Michael Thursday, June 11, 2015

Question:

Hello,

I read the question on Catholic Mystics or Intuitives and I have a follow up question for this. I read in a book on a famous house infestation where a "Catholic intuitive" was consulted and she helped the exorcist rid the house of the the demons but she then espoused reincarnation, knowing it is contrary to the Church's teachings.

You stated that anyone who says something contrary to the faith does not have their gifts from God. I believe this, but I have two questions:

1. Where can I find that anyone who says something contrary to the faith does not have their gifts from God in the writings of the saints or in the teachings of the Church? I know this to be true but I want to be able to cite a source to demonstrate this is true.

2. If the person doesn't have their gifts from God, they can only come from demons. But why would the demons help an exorcist rid other demons from a house infestation?

Dear Michael:

1) To learn about the nature of genuine and false sources from which people received information, such as a Spiritual Gift, read the writings of exorcists such as Fr. Amorth, Fr. Fortea, and other exorcists talk about such things. Also, Peter Kreeft's "Angel's (and Demons)". St. Thomas Aquinas would be a good source.

But, we need no one to confirm this. We have the light of reason that God has given everyone. How can a gift from God be in doctrinal error? It is an oxymoron. God is certainly not going inform someone of something that is false. This is about theology, the nature of God who cannot lie, deceive, or promote error .

2) If a person has a false gift there are three possible sources: a) the person's imagination  (or delusion); b) a deliberant fraud or hoax; c) or sourced in the devil.

The motivation of demons to help rid other demons from a house infestation is to trick people in thinking the "intuitive" is genuine, or to seduce people into New Age thinking, or to seduce people into some other nonsense that leads away from God.

Even when a foolish priest or deliverance counselor uses a false intuitive, God is still merciful. The prayers to cast out demons from the house are still the same and independent of any information gained from false intuitives.

Father Amorth, former Chief Exorcist of Rome, gives the following guidelines in evaluating a so-called "intuitive" or "sensitive":

1. ...must be a person highly regarded for his prayer life, his faith, his charity, and his judgment.

2. ...relies solely on the Word of God and uses common prayers, without any strange attitudes or theatrics.

3. ...is completely detached from monetary concerns...

4. ...is profoundly humble...treasures obscurity...

5. will be known by his fruits.

6. will never lose strength or need to "recharge" with a period of rest afterwards

If this intuitive you speak of espoused reincarnation, that "fruit" proves she is not acting with God and her "gift" is false.

Father Amorth goes on to say that genuine sensitives whose gifts come from God are rare and very difficult to find.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
