Question:

My question is that pertaining to the healing ministry. Trying to discern since this has been on my mind for a few years. Is this in accordance with the Catholic Church? I have heard of Francis McNutt. Also Rev. Albert A. Fredette and others like Father Scott and Alan Ames. Your answer will be most appreciated as I don't want to do anything wrong. Maria

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r), CCL, LTh, DD, LNDC

Dear Maria:

One must be careful when it comes to healing ministry. Francis McNutt is a Catholic, but in my personal opinion he wants to be so ecumenical that I think he forgets he is Catholic sometimes. This is just my opinion.

I cannot find any information on Father Fredette. You did not give me a last name for Father Scott, so I cannot look him up.

Alan Ames is from England and as a healing ministry. He allegedly receives visions and inner locutions. Unless his private revelations have been approved by his bishop he should not be in public ministry, that is, if he is telling the public the messages. I can find no reference that his private revelations are approved. I would advise against going to him.

Fr. Bill Halbing and Fr. John Hampsch are possibilities, especially for Healing of the Family Tree.

The best thing you can do for healing is to live the best Catholic life you know how to live. The Eucharist and Confession are the two greatest healers. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and daily prayers, devotions, and Bible reading will do more for healing than anything else.

We must also rest in the arms of our Lord and His will. Accept our lot in life. We can still pray for healing, but in the meantime accept it and life up your suffering to God and to our Blessed Mother for the salvation of souls, for example. There is never any guarantee of healing of the body or mind. All that counts is he healing of the soul so we can spend eternity in friendship with our Lord.

Bro. Ignatius Mary
