Question: May a good Catholic use a credit card with a chip? Revelation 13:16 -17 says, "It forced all the people, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to be given a stamped image on their right hands or their foreheads, so that no one could buy or sell except one who had the stamped image of the beast’s name or the number that stood for its name." And then Revelation 14:9-10 says, "A third angel followed them and said in a loud voice, “Anyone who worships the beast or its image, or accepts its mark on forehead or hand, will also drink the wine of God’s fury, poured full strength into the cup of his wrath, and will be tormented in burning sulfur before the holy angels and before the Lamb." Some say that the chip (the credit cards with a chip) is the mark of a beast because Revelation 13:17 "no one could buy or sell except one who had the stamped image of the beast’s name..." I want to be a good Catholic. Revelation 14:9 says “Anyone who worships the beast or its image, or accepts its mark on forehead or hand, will also drink the wine of God’s fury..." As a good Catholic may I with a good conscience use a credit card with a chip? And what is the correct Catholic interpretation of the above texts. I am confused. Please help me. Thank you.

(4.6.19) Do not fear. The chip in credit cards have nothing to do with those prophecies. The operative aspect of the prophecies is that the "image" will be on the right hand or on the forehead. The credit card chip is not located in either place. The second, and most important aspect is that this "image" must be worshiped. I doubt if you are worshiping the chip in your credit card. Do not be afraid, as Saint Pope John-Paul often said. We do not know what how these prophecies will come about, but one thing is for sure, chips in credit cards do not qualify, according to Scripture, to be the mark of the beast. God Bless, Bro.
