Question Title Posted By Question Date
I think I am being harassed by something evil Jennifer Wednesday, May 2, 2007

Question:

Sometimes at night, in bed after I say my prayers and before I fall asleep I feel a strong evil presence. I recently converted to the Catholic faith through the RCIA this Easter 2007. This has occured 5 times in the time leading up to and since the Easter vigil.

It starts with something making a popping sound like the TV or the refridgerator then a well of fear overcomes me and I know what's coming next. Something pokes me in the middle of my back. It started out as a subtle touch but the last two times it has happened it was more forceful and caused me to flinch, spring up, and cry out. It only happens when my back is turned away from my husband toward the wall of the bedroom. I immediately curl up to my husband and say a silent prayer in my head.

My husband is of course scared also and often won't sleep in the bed with me because of it. I try to sleep with my back toward my husband so it won't happen but I had surgery on my arm 6 days ago and cannot sleep with my back facing my husband because it hurts my arm. I have read through the praers on your site. As I am typing this, I am hearing the bathtub and the refridgerator pop. I am sitting up in my bed with a pillow behind my back to protect me. I am also wearing my rosary around my neck. Am I crazy? Am I imagining all this? I can't sleep and won't turn the light off in my room. Please help me.

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Jennifer:

Let me first say, Welcome to the Church. Unfortunately not everyone may welcome you to the True Church -- namely, our enemy, the devil.

While the explanation of what is happening to you may be sourced in some natural phenomena coupled with "psyching" yourself out, sort-to-speak, this does sound like it could be a form of demonic harassment.

In addition to the prayers you are already praying, but sure to include one to rebuke the demon of fear and the demon of harassment.

In addition, I would certainly bless your house, and especially your bedroom and bed with holy water. If possible, ask a priest to bless your house and each room of the house. You do not have to tell him what is going on if you don't want to.

If no priest is available or willing to bless your house, contact me, and we can do a house blessing over the phone.

Then each night when you go to bed, say prayers of protection, plus whatever usual prayers you say, bless yourself with holy water, and then go to bed.

When the events are happening, repeat a prayer like this:

Father in heaven, take away my fear for I know that you are all powerful against all forces of darkness. Fill my soul with peace and assurance of your protection. Please, Father, rebuke, bind, and cast away from me whatever evil entity that is harassing me right now. I ask this with the intercessions of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, Blessed Sts Peter and Paul, Blessed Archangel Micheal, and all the saints and angels of heaven, and holy in the name of your son, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Actually, this prayer could be your bedtime prayer in general.

If this more lengthly prayer is too much when you are in the midst of fear when this thing is poking you, just say, "Father in heaven take this thing away from me" or some other short prayer like that. Repeat that prayer three times for the Trinity.

A prayer even more to the point when in the midst of an attack when you need something quick and to the point and it is hard to think: "In the name of Jesus, be gone" said three times or more.

If frequent reception of the Sacraments (Eucharist and Confession), adoration, praying devotional prayers like the rosary and devotions to a favorite saint, using holy water blessings and spiritual warfare prayer do not over time bring this phenomenon to a halt, you may want to contact me for a personal consultation.

We will be praying for you.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
