Question:

Dear Brother Ignatius, I am happy to be able to communicate my concerns to you. My husband was diagnosed with diabetes, and seems to have gout which was not diagnosed. He has pain all the time, swollen and red feet, as now his hands are swollen and red at times. I have had several doctors tell me that he has diabetes. He gets very angry and says it is gout. A doctor who looked at him said he did not have gout. He is a very difficult person to live with.
He won't go to any alopath doctor. He argues with TV commercials as though they matter. He has been sick for 4 years now. I am concerned that I can't stand being around him when he acts wierd.

He says he has demonic presence that he senses in his bedroom. In past he said he felt painful pressure on him at night, and knew it was the devil crushing him. Then today he admitted being choked by the devil and sensed he meant to kill him. Said he saw a vague semblance of a man, and knew it was the devil. My husband asked God for mercy, and it went away.

Also, he gets irritated when I say Blessed Mother is our mediatrix. He says he only prays to God. He doesn't like the Marian Association, saying they give Mary too much importance which is only for God. I have given up trying to make him feel differently. He says that there is too much about Mary, and not enough about Jesus. He wasn't always thinking this way about Mary.

Anyway, I have wondered even more now, if he has need of help from someone spiritually. He is very intelligent, but very weird in his thinking.

I guess I need to know from you if you think that he needs spiritual warfare counseling or not. I suggested that we have our house blessed. I wonder too if his ailments are something from the demonic as well. He and I do not get along at all. Most of the time I have something negative to say to him. I understand that contention in a household can invite demonic activity. Would you be willing to talk to him? Thank you. Annette

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Annette:

There is no way for me to tell whether or not there is a demonic element in your husband's life. I would need to know a LOT more information.

I can certainly talk to him, but he will have to be willing to talk to me and be willing to accept the counseling process if we proceed with counseling.

There are things you can do in terms of prayer for him. The SW Prayer Catalog linked below contains several prayers that may be useful to you. The rebuking particular spirits, hedge prayer, and others I would recommend.

But the long and short of it is that your husband has to come forward himself to receive help. If he is willing, I can certainly talk with him.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
