Is there such a thing as a Tom Sunday, April 20, 2008

Question:

Dear Brother Ignatius Mary,

I'm not looking for sympathy and I'm not at all without some blame myself but I think I may be under a curse. I am now and have been for the last 7-8 years a practising Catholic.I recieve the sacraments regularly, I pray every day, I live as virtuous a life as I can. I have in the course of the last year been dramaticaly delivered from an addiction to ciggerettes and beer.

I have never had a work situation last for very long. I've always been a sole provider for my family. This work curse has affected me my whole working life. I'm going through it again. I have other afflictions that I've had to endure for long periods. I'm not whinning but it really seems that the combination of troubles and longevity of the problems are of some sort of demonic sourse.

This past year I have increased my prayers with more regular reception of confession and even done Eucharistic adoration during lent. I've started saying the Loth as much as I can. I know I've been drawing nearer and nearer to Our Lord through this but I still can't shake the hunch that demons are trying to ruin my wife's and I's life. We've just missed being evicted a couple of times in last few months and all my carefully husbanded resources are dried up. I feel like I'm at the end of my rope.

I just strted praying some of the prayers in the spiritual warfare catalog. I can sense the power in them especially the one about ancestral stuff and the hedge prayers. I don't trust my own discrenment very much and I have a very difficult time telling the difference between imagination and inspiration. Please help me if this sounds like something appropriate to this forum. I tried to check you previous questions box, but nothing would come up.

Thank you in advance, Tom

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Tom:

There is without doubt many situations, even ongoing situations, that are caused by our own decisions and behavioral patterns. Sometime and oftentimes we make our own "bad luck".

There is, however, the existence of a family curse. The effects of this curse is like a black cloud over the person or over the family that no matter what one does bad things happen.

Doing what you are doing -- increasing your prayer life, especially confession (which is a powerful form of defacto exorcism), and adoration are the first things to do. Continue the adoration, by the way, do not restrict it to just Lent.

Adding to this the spiritual warfare prayers is also the thing to do. The fact that you sense a power in the Renunciation of Ancestral Sins prayer may give a clue to the problem as the "curse" may originate with one of your ancestors.

I would advise that you follow the Seven Steps to Self Deliverance. Include in your prayers the following:

Breaking Personal Curses and Spells

In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, strengthened by the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, of Blessed Michael the Archangel, of the Blessed Apostles Peter and Paul, and all the Saints, and powerful in the holy authority of His Precious and Wondrous Name, I ask, O Lord God, that you break and dissolve any and all curses, hexes, spells, seals, satanic vows and pacts, spiritual bondings and soul ties with satanic forces, evil wishes, evil desires, hereditary seals, snares, traps, lies, obstacles, deceptions, diversions, spiritual influences, and every dysfunction and disease from any source whatsoever, that have been placed upon me.

Father in Heaven, please rebuke these evil spirits and their effects and cast them away from me so that I may continue to do Your Will and fulfill the mission you have for them to Your Greater Glory.

Thank you, Father, for hearing my prayer. I praise Your Holy Name and worship You and Love You. Thank You for the wisdom and light of Your Holy Spirit. Thank You for enabling me through Your Holy Spirit to be aggressive against the works of the enemy. Thank You for Your Hope, that takes away discouragement; thank You for ongoing victory. "...in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us" (Romans 837).

Father, I now place my enemies into your hands. Look with mercy upon them, and do not hold their sins against them. Anyone who has cursed me, I now bless. Anyone who has hurt me, I now forgive. For those who have persecuted me, I now pray

Our Father...
Hail Mary...
Glory Be...

O My Sweet Jesus, forgive us our sins and save us from the fires of Hell. Lead all souls to Heaven, and help especially those who are most in need of Thy Mercy.

Holy Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou, O prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl through the world seeking the ruin of souls.

Amen and Amen.
