Question:

Can you please tell me what a "seal" is? I seem to remember reading somewhere that with a "seal," a spirit is sealed and the seal has to be broken before a spirit can be bound. Is this accurate? How would you know if someone was affected by a "sealed spirit?"

Thank you ~ Kathy

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Kathy:

There are some Protestant deliverance counselors that talk about such things, but there is no biblical basis for this and no clinical basis either from my experience.

We are "sealed" with the Holy Spirit at baptism and confirmation. That means that the mark of the Holy Spirit has been placed upon us. That will never go away; the mark is permanent.

The seals of the book of Revelation are seals placed on a scroll. This would be like a wax seal used to "seal" an envelope.

There is a demonic seal that is a demonic signature that is used in the "selling of one's soul."

There cannot be a demonic seal in the manner of the Seal of the Holy Spirit, because a demonic seal is not permanent. A demon cannot permanently claim ownership of anyone. God can remove it; the person can remove it by an act of will. A seal in this sense is a spiritual mark of ownership.

There are physical "seals" in the sense of marks of ownership like a tattoo or the like.

But, a "sealed spirit"? That does not make sense and sounds like one of the many innovations of Protestants. I have found that Pentecostal and Protestant exorcists and deliverance ministers like inventing terms like that.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
