Am I possessed? Holly Friday, April 25, 2008

Question:

Hi everyone. I have this problem with apostasy. The longest I have ever stayed Catholic for is 6 months. I always end up leaving the Catholic Church.

When I am staying Catholic, I go to Mass and receive the Eucharist and everything but then I always end up, for some reason, falling away from the faith once again. I have no idea why.

I am so perplexed. I am at my wits end. I have talked to my priest about this and he simply says that we all go through rough times every now and then.

But I honestly believe there is more to this than just rough times. Is there a possibility that I am possessed or that demons are involved in some way? If so, what can I do to remedy the situation?

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Holly:

There is no way to determine your spiritual dilemma. I would need about 50 pages of more information to do that, but it is highly doubtful that you are possessed.

I can say that you do not just "leave" the Church. There are reasons. You need to examine yourself to see what it is that triggers your leaving. Even if you do not know why, there is still something that triggers it -- perhaps subconscious.

So, you need to write down a step-by-step log of exactly what you do in leaving and returning. Examine yourself closely.

I would also recommend seeing a mental health professional for counseling. Perhaps seeing a psychiatrist would be advised too since these sorts of things may have a psychiatric connection that could be resolved with medication.

If the keeping a log and prayer, seeing a counselor for some cognitive therapy perhaps, seeing a psychiatrist who determines that nothing is wrong there, then maybe there is a spiritual explanation.

Then, I would advise the Seven Steps to Self Deliverance found on the HELP page linked below. If that does not help then you may need to contact us for formal counseling. The Help Request Form is at the bottom of the HELP page.

We will be praying for you.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
