Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Leah:

God can heal any infirmity, even personality disorders. Sometimes He does heal people with mental problems. St. Dymphna is the patron saint of those with mental disturbances. There have been many healings with her intercession.

Barring a healing, personality disorders can be very complex and very deeply entrenched into the psyche. As such they do not always find full healing. Frankly, cure is uncertain, though symptoms can be lessoned sometimes. The problem is that a person with a personality disorder oftentimes does not realize there is a problem. They think they are normal.

The person should see a professional Christian counselor or psychiatrist who is experienced with personality disorders if they are truly interested in changing. There are therapies that have been successful with some people.

But with God all things are possible. We must persevere in prayer and in hope. Don't hold your breath, but don't lose hope.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
