excruitiating stomach aches before prayer or in adoration Kathleen Wednesday, May 28, 2008

Question:

Myself and my friend have started a Eucharistic childrens hour at the church we attend. I had this pain a couple of times at home while praying the chaplet of St. Michael/ or rosary. We just had a may crowning and afterward I went into cold sweats because my stomach hurt so bad. I had to sit down and pray because I thought I was getting dizzy. My friends husband sat next to me and said his stomach was hurting as well. This pain is intense and does go away after some pleaing and praying.

Last week my friend was on the way to adoration and she had the same pain. She thought to go to the emergency room but started the hour later and proceeded and the pain disappeared.

It's been going on with me for about 6months or more and only occurs during prayer. It's not a regular stomach ache. I want to cry it hurts so bad.I know this is not webmd but this is really an intense pain that comes on as fast as it disappears. I don't think it's of physical nature.

Do you know what this could be or if you have heard of this type of thing before? I know I'm not crazy know that it has happened to my friend and her husband now.Thankyou for any information.

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Kathleen:

I am sorry to hear that this is happening. Presuming there is not a medical cause what your describe as a pain only in prayer and that others experience the same thing, there is a possibility that this may be an attack by the Enemy.

Try some of the prayers in our Spiritual Warfare Catalog linked below. I would recommend the Hedge Prayer of Protection and perhaps the Rebuking Particular Spirits. On the rebuking prayer the demon to rebuke could be the "demon of stomach pain". The prayer in one spot counter the demon spirit with the opposite attribute, in this case perhaps the "spirit of comfort".

Adoration is certainly an activity that the devil hates especially if you are modeling Eucharistic adoration to children.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
