oppressed or possessed and question about book stacey Thursday, July 24, 2008

Question:

Just wanted to thank you for the information on positive confession in the word of faith movement. It answered alot of my questions.

I also had to respond to the last post on possible demonic oppression. What they described was almost exactly what I experienced in 2005 through 2006. I just wanted to say to them to keep persevering and don't give up. Don't let the enemy scare you away from the faith and he will try to do that. It does get better but may take some time just like Brother told me in a previous post the peace of God will eventually replace the oppression but it may not happen all at once.

Brother, I have a question about a book a relative loaned me awhile back which I've been reading off and on. Its called the War on the Saints by Jesse-Penn Lewis. I think she is protestant and I did not see it listed on your book list. It's not so much a book on deliverance as it is on how to recognize the deceptions of the enemy. It goes into alot of detail about ways christians can be deceived that many would not even think of.

I do have some mixed feelings about it though. Even though she does seem to have some helpful and informative info it almost plays into the "devil behind every bush" philosophy that alot of churches fall into. Whereas alot of Christians are deceived into thinking every impression they get is of God this almost has the opposite effect of making you wonder if every impression you get is of Satan.

Are you familiar with this book and if you are can you give me your opinion? Thanks and God Bless!

Question Answered by

Dear Stacey:

Thank you for your comments.

I would not recommend Jesse-Penn Lewis. She comes from a background that is very problematic.

There is no need to go to any non-Catholic source on this subject. It is best to stick to the Catholic sources to ensure that what you are getting is consistent with the Catholic Church.

There are some Protestant sources that have some value in the subject of spiritual warfare. I have listed some of them on our recommended book list. But I cannot recommend Jesse-Penn Lewis.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
