5 year old adopted son Jen Sunday, July 27, 2008

Question:

Hello, I was wondering if you could give me some advice on our son, aged 5, adopted at 1 year of age from Guatemala. We have been having major behavioral challenges with our son since the beginning. He is extremely violent, angry, defiant, controlling and manipulative at times. He just refuses to accept our direction or authority most of the time. Several times a day, over inconsequential things he flies into a rage and has such a hard time coming out of it. We can literally see him fighting with himself back and forth, "Mommy I need a hug, I'm going to kill you Mommy" Back and forth.

The other day he told me he'd cut me into a thousand pieces and eat me. He's opened car doors on the highway, pulled knives on me. Spit in my face and verbal assaults are a daily occurance.

We've had him evaluated by professionals and he gets 20 hours of in home care a week, so we are covered on that end.

So my question is, could this be partly attributed to some kind of spiritual warfare. Sometimes the anger in his eyes is downright frightening, he occasionally spouts out comments like "Stupid Jesus, stupid Mary" etc. and at times, when he is agitated I will pray silently the Hail Mary etc and he will rage more, although at other times this works.

Just wondering what advice you could give us.
We have had many Masses said for him btw
Thank you,
Jen

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Jen:

I am sorry to hear about this. I know you are going through a lot of pain in this situation.

What you are describing could be demonization if psychiatric causes have been ruled out. To be safe I would certainly use the prayers in our Catalog on a continuing basis. Include in your prayers the Breaking of Spells and Curses, also the Rebuking of Particular Spirits identified by attribute (e.g., anger, hatred, violence, rebellion, etc.), the Hedge Prayer of Protection, and also the Renunciation of Ancestral Sins on behalf of your son.

Persevere in these prayers. The battle may be long. If after a while these prayers do not bring some relief you might want to approach your diocese to ask about an evaluation for a possible exorcism.

It is very sad when children are demonized, usually through a curse or ancestral demonization.

God loves your son and He loves you too. Pray and persevere. Never stop in your petitions to heaven.

I would also develop a devotion to St. Dymphna, St. Benedict, and St. Padre Pio. These are very power spiritual warriors. Also St. Joseph, the protector of the child Jesus.

We will certainly be in prayer for him and your whole family.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
