Is it God's will that a person be diabollically obsessed? Scott Tuesday, December 9, 2008

Question:

Hello,

I think that I may have a problem with obsession. Some daily symptoms are
1. zero self confidence. Even when I know something cold, when it comes time to use it, my mind clouds over and the negative thoughts intrude. Despite my best efforts, I cannot succeed at a lot of things that are important to me.

2. Although it has gotten better as of late, I doubt sometimes that there is a God, even though I pray for faith. I see others' faith and I think that I will never have one like theirs'.

3. I have so much trouble concentrating, not just in prayer but in life in general. I even bought a scriptural rosary to read while I pray the rosary to help me focus on the mysteries, but even that doesn't always help.

4. I seem to have something about me that leaves me in akward situations around others and sometimes invites others to riff at me.

I have been living as a devout Catholic for 2 years now. I have lived in mortal sin for over 15 years beforehand. I have had exposure to the occult and long term unrepented sin beforehand as well, so I suppose that I could be a target for the devil.

My question is, is it God's will that I go through this?
Or is this a form of healing my soul?

I try to accept the suffering that comes my way from these symptoms (there are others as well). Am I wrong to "take my lumps" as a form of pennance for my past and not do anything else? Should I wait it out before I persue councilling?

Does God want me to purify this way, or should I seek deliverance councilling to try and get rid of these symptoms?

I call them symptoms because I am not sure that I am obsessed, just a self diagnoses.

I look forward to your reply, Thanks.

Dear Scott:

In most cases any level of demonization is caused by the behaviors and actions or either ourselves or of others (such as in a curse). This is not God's "particular" will since God does not will evil. All things are in God's "permissive" will in that nothing can happen in this universe except as He permits it.

Since we human beings are created in the image of God, we have free will. God never intrudes upon free will. If He did intrude it wouldn't be free. Thus, He permits us to get ourselves in trouble, or others to cause problems for us, because that is the nature of Free Will. Thus, we suffer the consequences of our own choices and the choices of others.

God, however, promises to make all things work together for good if we let Him (Rom 8:28). He can bring goodness out of evil. He can take the lemons in our life and make sweet lemonade.

Sometimes God leaves the affliction with us for our own good. He did this with St. Paul (2 Cor 12:7-10). St. Paul was being attacked by some "messenger of Satan" (a demon). He asked God to take it away three times, but God said no. Since St. Paul had been privileged with great visions God allowed this demonic attack to keep St. Paul humble. St. Paul was told that the grace of Christ was sufficient enough for him. Through this St. Paul learned a profound thing that applies to all of us:

2 Cor 12:10  "For which cause I please myself in my infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ. For when I am weak, then am I powerful."

Thus, God may allow the harassment to continue if it will be good for you. Otherwise, freedom is possible if one does the things they need to do to find freedom.

What I would advise is to go through the Seven Steps to Self Deliverance linked below. If no relief is gained, then contact us for a personal consultation. At the bottom of the HELP page is a link for a Request for Services.

Also, do not dismiss the possibility of a psychological issue. Conditions like depression can cause some of the symptoms you are describing. Sometimes problems like this can be both psychological and demonological.

God bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
