Question: Weird dream: a woman in white hands me a box wrapped as a gift. When I open the box, inside is a CD labeled "Conscious VooDoo." I am a bit disoriented in the dream by the gift and wake up immediately. In my past, I have dabbled in Wicca, Buddhism, and other New Age junk, but now I am solid Catholic. Since I have been experiencing a number of "spiritual attacks" recently, I thought this dream might be significant. My friends in the Catholic spiritual warfare ministry have never heard of "Conscious VooDoo" and tell me that it is a "harassing spirit" and to ignore it. Have you ever heard of this before? Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM Dear Dave: Dreams are normally just dreams. They are symbolic and are normally the brain's creative way of working out anxieties and issues in our lives. It is also possible, however, that dreams can be inspired from the Evil One as an attack. In our Spiritual Warfare Prayer Catalog we have a Bedtime Prayer of Protection that may be helpful in this regard. As for "conscious Voodoo" I am not sure, but I think it has to do with zombiism. The Haitian voodoo tradition describes the zombie as "an individual who possesses the spirit of a dead person—a being who lacks a 'conscious' life, a sense of agency, and the states of sentience, feeling, and awareness, associated with typical human functioning."
