Question Title Posted By Question Date
Sacrilege against the Eucharist hank Monday, January 26, 2009

Question:

In a previous question, you mentioned receiving eucharist in the state of mortal sin a sacrilege against the eucharist. If I have done this before, but have confessed it, is my confession of that sin invalid because I am excommunicated from the church because of a sacrilege of the eucharist?

and also I have a friend who had an abortion long ago. I know this involves excommunication, she has already confessed the sin to a priest but does she need to go to the bishop to be back into communion with the church?

thank you. And God bless.

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Hank:

Any sin is forgivable. If you have confess this sacrilege, and all other sins, under the usual provisos, then you are restored to a State of Grace and reconciled with God and his Church.

The same thing applies for the person who had an abortion. Unless restoration from any of these automatic excommunications are reserved to the bishop or Pope, valid confession to any priest restores the person to God and His Church.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
