Question:

What is the best way to pray for someone who is a narcissist who displays rage and total ingratitude towards others including parents and an only brother? Is there a demonic element to this type of personality? Thank you for your help and ministry.

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Elizabeth:

Someone displaying narcissistic behavior may have a personality disorder and as such a mental health professional should be consulted.

As for demonic influence, this personality type needs little help from demons. But, demons are sometimes attracted to personality disorders. They will seeks to take advantage and exploit the person.

What you can do to address that possibility is to pray spiritual warfare prayers, linked below, on behalf of this person. One that comes to mind specifically is the Prayer for a Friend or Relative. The Rebuking Particular Spirit can be another one, changing the wording to apply to this person instead of oneself.

Ultimately a person must be willing to recognize their problem and ask for help. But, your prayers may help the person get to the point in which he will ask for help.

Keep in mind that even if all demonic influence ceases, presuming there is any there to begin with, the underlying personality disorder will most likely remain.

We will be praying for him.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
