human nature (again !) ;) maria Sunday, March 1, 2009

Question:

Dear Bro.Michael,
Thank you for the prompt enough response and for the clarification -to some extent .:)

If i may try again to phrase better what I am trying to say - our Lord has two natures - both human and Divine, right !

Our Lord tells us - love thy neighbor as thyself

Now, may be this is due to my own distorted perception of our truths - but do we not mostly hear how our Lord sufferred so much in the Incarnation ( and definitly in His Passion !)

May be what I am trying to focus on is that still, inspite of it all , He loved His human nature - His own creation and not taking it as just a necesary burden !

We as humans are not just human natures but human persons yet for our Lord , what he took up for Himself, would it not be only human nature !

This question does not hav eto be posted -esp. if due to any heretical element, it might mislead others but would truly like your thoughts on this .

Thank you again for prayers and time ; truly very grateful for your vary valuable help for many.

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Maria:

You wrote, "inspite of it all , He loved His human nature - His own creation and not taking it as just a necessary burden."

God is love. He can do nothing but love. Love is God's nature. His love is not "in spite of it all," but purely because He is loves His children. The human nature of Jesus was not assumed by Jesus as a "necessary burden," God assumed human form and became man because he loves us. It was not a burden. It was a loving act offered out of perfect love.

You stated, "We as humans are not just human natures but human persons yet for our Lord , what he took up for Himself, would it not be only human nature!" Our Lord assumed the human body in the Incarnation, but he was a Divine Person with two natures, human and divine. Thus, if I understand you correctly, yes, he took up for Himself only human nature, and not human personhood.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
