Sex Acts

Question:

The Church teaching regarding the use unnatural acts only as foreplay remains even if the male or female is infertile.

However, I think an arguement could be made that the gravity of the matter is reduced in these circumstances and the acts would not be mortally sinful.

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM+

Dear Father:

Several years ago I was asked a question about sex acts between consenting married couple such as oral and anal acts.

I did not know how to answer the question so I contacted Father Most, who at the time was one of the top moral theologians in the United States. He told me, "it is ugly, but morally permissible between consenting married couples" as long as the husband does not climax except vaginally thus maintaining openness to life.

Thus, according to Father Most oral and anal acts between consenting married couples is not immoral in-and-of-itself. The determining factor is whether the climax of the husband is open to life or not.

I personally do not know the answer, but deferring to someone like Father Most I think is safe.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
