Lucifer and Satan Blake Tuesday, August 31, 2004

Question:

Dear Brother,

Can you explain the difference in the beings who are named Lucifer and Satan? I heard before that Lucifer, the most beautiful of all angels, was the leader of the angels who became demons and that "satan" was something similar to Lucifer's right hand man. Thank you for your time. If you have time, could you also discuss the possible "tests" God gave to the angels that determined their worthiness of heaven or hell?

Thank you.

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM+

Dear Blake:

There is no difference. Lucifer and Satan are the same person.

Lucifer was the name of the Angel who rebelled in heaven. When Lucifer was kicked out of heaven, he name became Satan.

The "test" that God gave the angels is essentially the same test that he gave Mankind -- that of the exercise of Free Will to choose God or self.

God does not force anyone to love Him. Love cannot be forced, it has to be freely given. Thus the Angels and Mankind were both tested in terms of seeing how they would choose -- true love found only in God, or the false love of self.

Lucifer choose the false love of self and became Satan. Mankind chose the false love of self and brought "Original Sin" into the world and into the human line.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
