re: Seven Deadly Sins Patrick Sunday, January 27, 2013

Question:

Brother,

Thank you for your thorough response to my question. Reading through it, I become overwhelmed with how easy it is to fall into sin - the traps are everywhere and one sin leads to another. But I agree, when you look at it from the perspective of how you described:

"As we seek to behave with humility, generosity, temperance (self-restraint), chastity (of mind, body, and eyes), diligence (in prayer and spiritual growth), brotherly love (kindness and charity), and patience with our self and others, the deadly sins will be automatically avoided. When we do fall into sin, Confession cures that".

Well said, and it drives home the point to me of how we can't do it without God's help. And, why Our Lord is always there to help us -- to warn us when we come close to sin, and to help us get back up should we fall. Thanks again.

Dear Patrick:

You got it. That is why we say during the Holy Mass, "Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed" and why God promises in 1 John 1:0, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness" and in 1 Cor 10:13, "No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your strength, but with the temptation will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it", to mention but a few of God's promises.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
