orgasam without lust maria Monday, July 20, 2015

Question:

Hello Brother

I'm very embarrassed to ask this question but your the only resort. I have mentioned earlier that sometimes I fall into sin of mastrubation. I was a sinner living in concubinage for 11 years thinking that person would marry me but he betrayed me. I have confessed this sin but I keep falling into mastrubation.

I wanted to know if one gets an orgasam merely by reading a romantic novel is it still sin? I have itching in my private part so this happened while trying to rub the private part. Is reading a romantic novel fall under the sin of lust or disobeying commandment 6?

I just prayed the rosary but still seemed to have the orgasam. Please advice. Wen I confess do I say I mastrubated because that was not my intention.

It looks like I can no more read or watch romantic stuff.

Dear Maria:

Thank you for your question.

Your question brings up a topic of "female" pornography. Reading sexually explicit novels, such as Romance Novels, is the same sin as men (or woman) looking at visual pornography. These novels are designed to sexually arouse a woman, just as visual pornography is designed to sexually arouse a man.

You need to avoid these sort of novels.

Merely "scratching an itch" should not cause an orgasm. It is possible you may have a problem of hyperactive sexual arousal. In that case, you may need to talk to a mental health professional who is knowledgeable about such sexual matters.

As Catholics we learn that we are not only to avoid sin, but also the near occasion of sin. I would advise avoiding any books, movies, etc. of which causes significant arousal and temptation to sin. This advice is for everyone.

As for Romance Novels, all such novels that specialize in erotic and sexually explicit scenes is nothing more than text-based pornography. Lust is a sin, whether that lust is activated by the written word, a picture, a film, or a woman or man walking down the street. As such we need to "bounce our eyes" away from that which leads us to lust.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
