Regarding end prayers through the same Christ our Lord Nathan Monday, January 18, 2016

Question:

I'm curious and have not been able to figure it out. I notice some prayers end with "Through Christ our Lord" , whereas some end "with the same Christ our Lord". I don't understand the use of the words "the same". Could you explain?

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r), LTh, DD

Dear Nathan:

It is important to know the context of this phrase. For example, the Angelus end with...

Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts;
that, we to whom the Incarnation of Christ, Thy Son,
was made known by the message of an Angel,
may by His Passion and Cross,
be brought to the glory of His Resurrection
through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

This phrase is referring to the back to the Christ mentioned earlier in the paragraph. This prayer is to God the Father. Thus, it is made know that the Incarnation of Christ the Son, the Christ of the Passion and the the Cross, the Christ of the Resurrection, is the same Christ who is our Lord and Savior.

Hope this helps.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
