Question:

When a Catholic has sex with single/ multiple partners (any faith) outside a valid marriage, is a spiritual union taking place between them?

If yes, and the person confesses this sin, does the spiritual union with these multiple partners break, or is only the sin forgiven and the spiritual union continues until the death of one partner?

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Leon:

When a Catholic has sex with anyone not his spouse he commits grave sin. Such perverted sex creates a demonic bond. Anytime one perverts the sexual faculty -- by masturbation, fornication, adultery, etc. -- a demonic bond is created.

The Sacrament of Confession will forgive the sin and hopefully break the demonic bond. The demonic bond, however, is not automatically broken by the Sacrament of Confession. In some cases, the consequences of this sin -- the demonic bond -- may remain and additional prayer, perhaps even deliverance prayer, may be required to break the bondage and to take back ground that was given over to Satan with the person sinned.

See our Spiritual Warfare Prayer Catalog for various prayers to deal with things like this.

God bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
